In the industrial sealing world, two common terms you’ll encounter are Metal Gaskets and Spiral Wound Gaskets. While both are used to prevent leaks, they serve different purposes.
Metal Gaskets are typically made from a single material like soft iron, carbon steel, or stainless steel. They are incredibly strong and used in high-pressure environments like flanged joints, but they require very smooth flange surfaces and high bolt loads to create a seal.
Spiral Wound Gaskets, on the other hand, are a composite product. They consist of a V-shaped metal strip (usually stainless steel) wound together with a soft filler material (like graphite or PTFE). This design gives them excellent “spring-back” property, allowing them to maintain a seal even under fluctuating temperatures and pressures.
There are many types of RTJ gaskets, including R Gasket,RX Gasket,BX Gasket, SBX Gasket,IX Gasket, flange connections, and various customized products. We will do more sharing about ring joint gasket.
