Does the oval gasket use line sealing or surface sealing?

Oval gaskets usually adopt a line seal design, which is determined by their special structure and working principle.

From the principle of mechanical sealing, the cross-section of the oval gasket is oval. When it is compressed at the flange connection, it forms a continuous metal contact line with the sealing surface of the flange.

This wire contact method has significant advantages over surface sealing, as it can generate higher contact stress in high-pressure environments and achieve better sealing effects. When the system pressure increases, the line contact of the oval gasket will automatically enhance the sealing force due to the elastic deformation of the metal, making it particularly suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications such as petrochemicals and power. Line sealing can effectively reduce the frictional resistance of the sealing surface, facilitate installation and disassembly, and reduce the requirements for flange machining accuracy. In contrast, although surface seals have a larger contact area, they are prone to uneven deformation under high pressure, leading to seal failure.

The line seal design of the elliptical gasket ensures reliability while also considering economy and practicality, making it an ideal choice for industrial high-pressure seals.

There are many types of RTJ gaskets, including R Gasket,RX Gasket,BX Gasket, SBX Gasket,IX Gasket, flange connections, and various customized products. We will do more sharing about ring joint gasket.
