As the name suggests, a metal ring gasket is a solid metal gasket made of metal material that has been forged, heat-treated, and machined into an elliptical or octagonal cross-sectional shape. The sealing of the metal ring gasket is mainly manifested by the contact between the gasket and the inner and outer sides (mainly the outer side) of the flange trapezoidal groove.
Metal ring gaskets originated in the United States and were first used in the boiler industry in the 1920s. Later, they were used for sealing manhole covers, high-pressure vessels, and other containers, and then in petroleum production and refining industries.
With the increase of temperature and pressure in steam power units, the application of metal ring gaskets has gradually become widespread.
