Selection of sealing gasket:
(1) Determine the standard used for sealing gaskets
Generally speaking, the standard used for sealing gaskets is the same as that for flanges. The commonly used standards include Chinese National Standards (GB), Machinery Industry Standards (JB/T), Chemical Industry Standards (HG), International Standards (ISO), etc.
(2) Determine the nominal diameter and nominal pressure of the sealing gasket
The nominal diameter and nominal pressure of the sealing gasket are the same as those of the flange. For example: DN100-PN2.5.
(3) Determine the category of sealing gasket
Determine the type of gasket used based on the nominal pressure and the maximum temperature of the medium. It is mainly divided into flexible graphite gaskets, polytetrafluoroethylene gaskets, rubber gaskets, asbestos free fiber gaskets and wound gaskets, waveform pressure gaskets, elliptical gaskets, and octagonal gaskets. Due to the gradual elimination of asbestos gaskets for environmental and health reasons, this article does not recommend their use.
(4) Determine the form of the sealing gasket
The forms of gaskets are mainly divided into four categories: non-metallic soft pads, wrapped gaskets, metal composite gaskets, and metal gaskets. The specific form of sealing gasket should be selected based on the flange form and referring to the technical parameters provided by each manufacturer.
(5) Determine the material and model of the sealing gasket
The material of the sealing gasket should be determined based on the temperature, pressure, and corrosion performance of the medium, and then the gasket model should be determined based on the above content. The model of gasket generally includes six parts: gasket form, material, nominal diameter, nominal pressure, standard number, manufacturer or brand.
