Who doesn’t know the counter-intuitive design of elliptical gaskets?!

In the world of sealing, sealing rings are common components. The emergence of elliptical gaskets, with many counter-intuitive designs, makes many people feel newness. It does not follow the inertial thinking like ordinary sealing components. Instead, it uses a unique design logic to work with sealing rings to achieve unexpected sealing effects.

1. Intentionally making the size larger

Generally, people may think that the size of parts must fit perfectly to be useful. A little larger or smaller is not acceptable. But elliptical gaskets are different. Their diameter is deliberately made larger than the groove. This is not due to poor workmanship, but intentional. When the elliptical gasket is forced into the groove, it will deform due to extrusion. The elastic force from this deformation can make it cling tightly to the groove. It can achieve sealing by itself, without the need for extra effort to fix it. This idea of locking the seal through its own deformation is indeed quite unconventional.

There are many series of ring joint gasket, including R gasket, RX gasket, BX gasket, IX gasket, SBX gasket, etc. More information is waiting to be shared.

2. 23° golden bevel angle

When it comes to the contact surface of flanges, many people may think that it should be either vertical or horizontal to be reasonable. But the flange contact surface matched with elliptical gaskets is specially designed with a 23° inclination angle. Don’t underestimate this angle. It is a “balance master”. With this bevel angle, when the elliptical gasket is under pressure, it can distribute the force more evenly. It will not fail to seal due to too little pressure, nor will it cause the elliptical gasket or flange to crack due to too much pressure. It is like adding a “buffer zone” to the seal, making the entire sealing system more stable.

3. One-time imprint

Many parts can be reused after cleaning, but elliptical gaskets are very “persistent”. After use, they and the flange groove will leave exclusive indentations on each other, just like stamping a seal. This is not a quality problem, but their sealing “code”. If you forcefully reinstall the used elliptical gasket, those indentations will not match. The seal will definitely have problems, and leakage is inevitable. So elliptical gaskets are adherents of “one-time use”. They leave a lifelong mark after one use and will not make do.

Speaking of it, elliptical gaskets really have the ability to “tame all kinds of unruliness”. In difficult environments such as high temperature and high pressure, many sealing rings or ordinary gaskets cannot hold on. But elliptical gaskets can achieve self-locking through those indentations and firmly hold the line of sealing. Places with extremely high sealing requirements, such as hydrogenation reactors and chemical explosive equipment, cannot do without elliptical gaskets. With these counter-intuitive designs, they steadily complete the sealing task in harsh environments.
