An RTJ (Ring Type Joint) gasket is a solid metallic sealing ring with precision machining, mainly used in high-pressure and high-temperature piping and pressure vessel systems.
It is fitted into a special ring groove machined on RTJ-type flanges. When the flange bolts are tightened, the preload causes the gasket to undergo controlled elastic and local plastic deformation, forming a reliable metal-to-metal seal between the gasket and the flange groove.
Unlike soft gaskets (such as non-asbestos fiber or rubber gaskets) that seal by filling surface imperfections, RTJ gaskets achieve sealing through metal-to-metal contact and a wedging action between the gasket and flange groove.
As internal system pressure increases, the gasket is pressed more firmly against the groove walls, providing a self-energizing sealing effect.
Typical applications include API 6A wellhead equipment, Christmas trees, subsea pipelines, refineries, and high-pressure chemical reactor connections.
RTJ gaskets are commonly specified for Class 600 and higher pressure classes, and are standard practice for Class 900 and above in critical high-pressure services.
There are many types of RTJ gaskets, including R Gasket,RX Gasket,BX Gasket, SBX Gasket,IX Gasket, flange connections, and various customized products. We will do more sharing about ring joint gasket.
